Trevi Fountain

“Marcello, Marcello” this is the sound of the less than musical voice of Anita Ekberg in the film La Dolce Vita by Federico Fellini. Thanks to this film, which was made in Cinecittà in 1957, the great Trevi Fountain became a favourite site for any romantic couple. If you come to Rome and throw a coin in the crystal water, the legend says that you are destined to return to Rome. The fountain was commissioned to replace the old fountain of the virgin water and was started by Nicola Salvi in 1732 under the Pope Gregorio XII and completed thirty years later by Giuseppe Pannini. Every year more than a million Euros is thrown into the fountain thanks to the legend of the lovers. When you are at the Trevi Fountain remember to throw your pound or your dollar into the water and make a wish.
On the side of the fountain there is a smaller font, where you can drink the water from the Roman aqueduct of the virgin water, and the legend says that for all the lovers who drink this water, their love will be eternal just like Rome: the Eternal City. As we know, the Trevi Fountain is one of the largest fountains in the world, and also one of the busiest. One of the musts of the Trevi Fountain, after making your wish and tasting the water, is to enjoy a delicious Italian ice-cream. The most famous is San Crispino, arguably the finest “gelateria” in Rome.
